Research, Practice & Teaching

Drawing on organizational psychology, systems thinking, and lived experience within elite sport, Dr. Monton examines how identity, power, and cultural norms influence behavior within demanding environments, including sport, healthcare, and the military. Her work explores both the visible and often unseen dynamics that shape organizational life, with a particular focus on leadership, culture, and human sustainability under pressure.

She partners with leaders, teams, and organizations to foster healthier cultures of performance that support both individual thriving and collective excellence.

Dr. Monton is faculty in the Organizational Psychology program at Rutgers University, where she also serves as Director of Experiential Learning. Prior to joining Rutgers, she taught at Columbia University while completing her PhD in organizational psychology.

Her research has been presented nationally and internationally, including at the United Nations in Geneva and the U.S. Department of Justice, and her public scholarship has appeared in outlets including The Globe and Mail.

Before entering academia, Dr. Monton spent more than a decade competing internationally with the Canadian Women’s National Water Polo Team, helping Canada reach the podium at six major international events, including the World Championships, Pan American Games, Commonwealth Games, and World League.
